Thankful Card

Items used:
Stamps from MM Autumn Splendor "Thankful"
Stampology Onyx stamp pad
Gelly Roll Glaze "Glaze Orange"
Textured cardstock from Roberts CS pack
MM mini brad value pack metallic (pewter)
Some pop up squares I got in an Imaginisce pack a while back
This to That adhesive roller
and, of course, my trusty scoring board and paper cutter ;-)

I made this card for the CraftySteals challenge.  It was harder than I thought it would be because I don't have enough Halloween stuff, so I had to switch at the last minute to a Thanksgiving card. I figured it would still be OK since the requirements are still met (it's Halloween colors, and it has 2 brads :) )

It has more dimension in real life because the cardstock is textured and the sentiment is "popped up", plus the Glaze pen outline.

Oh, and the leaves are gray because I thought it was the black ink pad, and by the time I realized it wasn't I didn't have time to go looking for it :-P

What do you think?

Velcro not working so well? Replace it with a snap!

So, this all started when I was annoyed because the adorable monkey toy we got for our son kept falling off anywhere we attached it. The velcro they had used just wasn't cutting it, but I didn't want to use "better" velcro, because it would be too rough. Then it hit me: a snap!
Unfortunately, it didn't occur to me to take pictures before and during: D'oh!
Anyways, here's how I did it:

-First, I found my seam-ripper (in a sewing kit I put together for a class in high school!), and started undoing the stitching around the velcro. It's easiest if you pull the edges of the velcro up and put the seam ripper in between the velcro and the fabric.

-Then I just took the awl, put in on the tail and folded the tail in half width-wise to make sure I was in the middle (I did this better on one part than the other) and poked a hole. I put the socket end on the end of the tail because I figured it would be gentler on his gums when he decided to suck on the tail.

-Then I just did the same thing on the end closer to the body of the monkey, and put a stud there. (Make sure to use a socket and a stud, and make sure they're both on the same side (unless you want it to loop instead of fold, if that makes sense)

Anyways, that's all there is to it! Super easy, but super helpful! Now we can clip it wherever and not have it falling off all the time!

I probably should have used some of the cute engraved snaps, or at least colored, but I didn't, and I think it still looks really good :)

This is my first tutorial, and I know I need more pics, but otherwise, how'd I do?
